Description

The Children's Zoo at Celebration Square, an AZA-accredited facility since 2009, is currently offering Theatre Internships for the 2013 Zoo Season.  The Zoo currently houses approximately 160 specimens representing over 50 species of animals.  Theatre Internships offer the opportunity to gain real life experience utilizing practices learned in performing arts classes and programs in a non-traditional setting.  Internship positions are unpaid.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

• Perform during on-site live animal shows 
• Engage audience members in presentations
• Provide support for show staff and/or volunteers
• Use provided bio-facts during presentations
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Ability to design own scripts
• Ability to design sets and costuming

Position Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age and enrolled in a college or university; or a recent graduate of a college or university
• Work will be outdoors and in varying weather conditions
• Must be able to lift and carry objects up to and exceeding 50 lbs
• Must have good public speaking ability
• Must have working knowledge of basic computer programs
• Must be able to stand, sit, squat, bend, jump, reach, run, and lift items
  
• Ability to work around live animals including mammals, birds, reptiles, and invertebrates
• Ability to work with teens, children, and adults
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions
• Ability to work in a team and independently
• Interest in Performing Arts or Education preferred
  
• Creative thinking strongly desired

Time Commitment

• Internships may be full or part-time
• Days and hours of work will be determined upon acceptance into program
• Internships run mid-May through mid-August
• Please note if internship is qualifying for school credit
