Clean Saginaw

Adopt-a-Highway

Adopt-A-Highway, preventing roadside waste from polluting the land and local watershed.

Three times a year, our staff and volunteers head out to a two mile stretch on Veterans Memorial Highway (River Rd). There we pick roadside waste to prevent it from harming wildlife and negatively impacting the land and local watershed. In the past we’ve picked up a variety of trash including a bicycle, a TV, clothes, tires, and more!

We always catch a glimpse of the local wildlife at our site, right next to the Zilwaukee bridge. From snakes, turtles, and muskrats, to bald eagles and foxes! We’re thrilled we can do our part to clean up the homes of these amazing animals.

Consider volunteering as an individual or group to help us remove trash from our Adopt-a-Highway!

Dart Foam Collection

Since we began the program in September 2018, we've been thrilled to be a Dart Foam Recycling Center! From collecting just one extra large bag in 2018, this program has grown in popularity. In 2019 we collected 20 bags, and in 2020 we collected 92!

This is important because #6 Plastics that are foam are currently not accepted in the curbside recycling program for our area! Examples of foam recyclables include: foam cups, to-go containers, egg cartons, ice chests, meat trays (rinsed), and protective packaging foam (excluding packaging peanuts).

Prior to this, the closest Dart foam recycling drop-off center was the Midland Recyclers Facility on Ashman Street in Midland, MI. This is still an option to drop off foam materials, but we are excited to give our community another location to recycle these materials.

You can drop-off for your foam materials just inside our front gates to the left of the admissions booth. To help us make the recycling process easier, please do not leave paper or plastic bags in our drop-off container.

Saginaw River Clean-Up

Since 2002, volunteers from around Saginaw have come together to participate in the Riverfront Beautification Day. During this annual event, volunteers help remove debris, plant trees and flowers, and pitch in on other cleanup projects along the riverfront.

Consider volunteering as an individual or group during the next Riverfront Beautification Day!
