Sulcata tortoise may also be called African Spurred Tortoise due to spurs on rear legs. In Senegal, these tortoises, are signs of virtue, happiness, fertility, and longevity. Populations are declining due to illegal pet trade, overgrazing, and desertification. They are great at burrowing and will do so to help regulate their body temperature.

At the Zoo: vegetables, fruit, tortoise pellet
